InDesign File Link Consolidator
You want me to do what?! How many times?!
Sometimes you have to split up your InDesign files when you’re sending them to the printer. This could mean a potential cost increase in prep time because your assets are generally mingled together as you race to finish the print job, the client frantically making all sorts of changes at the last minute (and most of the time involving the art assets included in the document.)
This script helps to overcome the cost problem and can be used additionally to help organize a project after it’s been split up in general by:
- Choose a folder for dropping image links off.
- Parse the currently open document in InDesign and gather all links.
- Make copies of those files in the chosen folder in a subfolder labeled “Automation-Document Name”
- Provide an error file for any missing assets or other errors encountered during the run.
This script is provided as-is, we hope you find it useful and please let us know what you think; or if you’d like some other workflow automation problems solved.
