Luxology modo Mask Tools 1.0

making masks like a… mask.. maker?

Luxology modo has some amazing sculpting tools that work great when you’re using a tablet such as the Intuous from WACOM. Using a tablet with a laptop, or even using a tablet with a desktop can feel a bit incongruous because of all the keyboard shortcuts, dropping and picking up of tools or clicking around within the interface of any application.

This series of scripts helps to alleviate some of the burden by providing you quick access to masking based on geometry without the hassle of constantly dropping tools and changing selection modes.

  • Set Mask (setMask.pl)
Set Mask provides you with utility to take the current selection and regardless of tool state, set up a weight map for use in Vertex Map falloff. Once it’s done setting the map value to 100% it will restore whatever tool you were using when you invoked the command so you can immediately start sculpting or reshaping again.
Further, if you don’t have a map set up for Falloff yet, this script will create a Weight Map entitled “Falloff” so you can find it easily. Once you’ve run Set Mask you’ll notice that any edits to either mesh or image based sculpting only affect the masked-in area.
  • Add Mask (addMask.pl)
Add Mask is similar in function to the previous script but instead of clearing your old mask, it will simply add the current selection to the existing mask map. This enables you to tweak your mask continuously until you find just the right blend of geometry to guide your painting.
  • Clear Mask (clearMask.pl)
As it’s name implies, this method clears the entire contents of the Falloff map and restores your previous tool state.
  • MaskTools Form (MaskTools.CFG)
Included in the bundle is a configuration file that provides access to these commands in a popup form. Also referenced in this form is the “Invert Falloff” command so that you can quickly reverse your operations in the same location where you define your mask.
